Colleen and Nicky’s winter wedding was just so beautiful and elegant. They met a couple of years ago and from what they’ve said it was pretty much instant love. Their connection and how comfortable they around each other is just so clear to see.
I’ve known Colleen from the North Coast for years and years, but when you meet Nicky you also feel like you’ve known him for years too. I’m not going to lie though, I was pretty shocked when they booked me for their wedding after an unfortunate incident on their engagement shoot with a smoke bomb. Let’s just say the engagement ring got insured the day after our shoot.
But I couldn’t have been happier that they trusted me with their day. Ryan joined me to capture it so we had a fantastic dynamic. Ryan always becomes the favourite, partly because he has a habit of showing up at the portrait session with beers for the guys and on this occiasion, gin in a can for the girls. To be fair, it was much needed in Portglenone forest as it was the tail end of December and absolutely baltic.
There were so many personal touches to the day. Colleen’s cousin made her floral arrangements, her best friend’s mum made the cake and the little details scattered all over the venue made for the most wonderful setting.
The reception was held in the Wild Duck Inn in Portglenone and it was my first time shooting there. I really hope it’s not my last because as you walk into the function room it feels like you’ve been transported to Narnia – you just don’t expect what awaits through that door.
For me, what made Colleen and Nicky’s day was the emotions and wonderful moments. From Colleen’s parents, especially her Daddy’s reactions; to the absolute belter of a best man’s speech which had me laughing as I edited every image. There were just so many epic moments to capture – which for me is the sign of an epic wedding. Thank you so much Colleen and Nicky for letting me be a part of it. It honestly means the world. So before you view the photos below, make sure to grab a cuppa and watch the slideshow above. And if you’d like me to capture your special day, I’d love to have a chat with you, just contact me here.
